Overview
WideDrive is a broad frequency overdrive built around two clipping stages. It keeps more low end than a strongly mid focused drive while producing smooth, symmetrical saturation. That combination works well for full chords, thick single note lines, and bass friendly drive sounds.
Drive controls the gain and distortion intensity of the clipping circuit. Tone moves from warmer to brighter voicing. Level spans substantial cut and boost, which makes it possible to match a dense high Drive sound or use a lower Drive setting to push the next device.
Tips
- For a broad rhythm sound, start with Drive around 40%, Tone near 50%, and adjust Level to match bypass.
- For a cleanish boost with body, keep Drive below 20% and raise Level by a few decibels.
- For a thick lead, set Drive between 60% and 75%, then raise Tone only as much as needed to restore articulation.
- If the low end becomes crowded, reduce bass in the amp or add an EQ after WideDrive. The device is intentionally fuller than many mid focused drives.
- Set Tone while monitoring through the final cabinet or impulse response, since that stage determines much of the audible top end.
