Overview
The Regent is an amp style distortion with a responsive gain stage and a three band passive tone stack. It covers low gain crunch, classic rock rhythm, and saturated lead sounds while offering more tonal control than a typical three knob drive pedal.
Gain sets the amount of clipping and sustain. Bass, Middle, and Treble interact like the controls on an amplifier, so changing one band can affect the apparent balance of the others. Level sets the final output. Use The Regent into a clean amp model as the main source of drive, or before an already driven amp for another layer of gain and tone shaping.
Tips
- For open crunch, start with Gain around 35%, Bass at 45%, Middle at 60%, and Treble at 55%.
- For a thicker lead, raise Gain and Middle, then trim Bass if the low strings lose definition.
- For a scooped heavy rhythm sound, lower Middle modestly rather than removing it completely. Keep enough midrange for the guitar to remain audible in a mix.
- Set the tone stack with the final cabinet active because cabinet voicing can change the useful range of Bass and Treble.
- Match Level with bypass while dialing the sound, then add only the boost needed for the part.
