How Axion thinks about sound: signal chain, rigs, set lists, and devices.

This section explains the model behind Axion: how audio flows through the unit, how your sounds are organized, and what a device is. If you read nothing else first, read this; every other section assumes the vocabulary defined here.

The big picture

Audio flows from the guitar input through an ordered chain of devices (Device 1, Device 2, and so on up to Device N) and out to the outputs. — Audio enters at the instrument input, passes through each device in order, and exits at the outputs.

A rig is the whole picture: which devices are in the chain, in what order, with what parameter values. A set list is a named, ordered collection of rigs you can step through, typically one per song, gig, or scene.

Each rig can have one or more chains, collections of devices that modify audio from an input and deliver the modified audio to one or more outputs. We’ll tackle these concepts one at a time below:
