Overview
Bloom is a dynamics sensitive harmonic generator. It adds a brighter, more complex edge to the start of a note, then settles into smoother saturation as the note sustains. The result follows picking strength instead of applying the same clipping curve to every note. It works well for touch responsive lead tones, lively clean sounds, and adding definition before an amp.
Sensitivity sets how readily the effect reacts to the input. Response sets how strongly the detected attack changes the harmonic character. Smooth moves the steady sound from a sharper shape toward a rounder one, although strong attacks still lean brighter. Harmonics controls the overall amount of saturation. Mix blends the processed and dry paths, and Level sets the output.
Tips
- Begin with Sensitivity and Response at 50%, Smooth near 40%, and Harmonics around 35%. Raise Sensitivity until soft and hard picking feel distinct.
- For an articulate clean enhancer, keep Harmonics below 30% and Mix between 30% and 50%.
- For a more aggressive lead sound, raise Harmonics and Response, then use Smooth to take the edge off sustained notes.
- Place Bloom early in the chain so it can respond directly to playing dynamics. Heavy compression before it reduces the difference between soft and hard attacks.
- Match Level with bypass before judging a setting. Extra loudness can make a harmonic setting seem better than it is.
