Overview
Axion IR convolves the input with an impulse response audio file. An IR can capture a speaker cabinet, microphone chain, room, plate, or other linear system. The sound therefore depends primarily on the selected IR File. Axion IR supports mono and stereo files and preserves separate left and right responses when the file contains both channels.
Pre Delay L and Pre Delay R delay the convolved signal independently by up to 200 ms. Matching values move the complete IR later in time. Different values create a stereo offset. Loading or changing a file is smoothed to avoid an abrupt transition.
Tips
- Place a cabinet IR after an amp model and before time based effects unless a different order is part of the sound.
- Leave both Pre Delay controls at 0 ms for normal cabinet use. Added delay can make the cabinet feel detached from the pick attack.
- For room or reverb IRs, try matching Pre Delay values around 15 to 40 ms to keep the dry attack distinct.
- Use different left and right Pre Delay values sparingly. Small offsets add width, while large offsets can pull the image toward one side.
- Compare IR files at similar loudness. Captures can have different recorded levels even when their tonal balance is similar.
